hypnotherapy sessions for emotional healthClients seeking hypnotherapy treatment are usually very much like you and me, people who function well in most areas of their lives and who are often very successful people. Some may feel however, that they lack resources for successful relationships, some are depressed, anxious or stressed or have issues that have continued to bother them throughout their lives. The cost of each session of hypnotherapy is $210.00, and a session usually lasts about an hour.

As a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist my focus is on communication with the subconscious mind. There is a wealth of data indicating that our mind and body are involved in constant two-way communication. Like traffic on a highway, messages are sent from the cells of our body to the brain and from the brain to the body. Blocked emotions or unexpressed or repressed feelings create a traffic jam, resulting in emotional turmoil that can have a negative impact on our health and wellbeing.

Below is some general information about hypnotherapy and how it can be of help. If you would like to discuss your personal situation with Katherine Ferris, a Registered Hypnotherapist, then please call (02) 9568 6801 or get in touch via email using our contact form.

  • Advantages and definition of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy or hypnosis is defined as a relaxed, focused state of awareness. The actual state of hypnosis is difficult to describe and until recently, it was assumed that it was a trance state, similar to deep sleep, or that the mind was somehow unconscious.

hypnosis and trance is a natural state of mind

Most people however, say they simply feel relaxed and that it does not feel like an unusual state of mind, it does not feel like a “trance”. The reason being is; it is natural for us to experience this altered state of awareness – and we do so every day, without realising it. In reality, there is a specific state that the brain enters into. This has been confirmed by brain scans, during hypnosis. The brain wave activity changes during hypnosis and assumes a state similar to that just before sleep, when the alpha state is entered.

During this time, the mind is very open to visualising and creating a rich sensory experience. The more real this experience becomes, the more effect it will have on our waking behaviour. This is why we highly recommend our range of Hypnosis CDs they are therapeutic and particularly effective in eliminating many bad habits and symptoms of emotional stress. Clinical Hypnotherapy and emotional health

hypnosis cds for stop smokingWe are constantly hypnotising ourselves and we don’t even know it. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy, when we call ourselves names, put ourselves down, reinforce bad habits such as; smoking, drug addiction, alcohol or gambling. Negativity, stress and worry can get to be a habit and if we do it long enough; we will develop a belief or a habit that will get the results we don’t want and this is called the NoCebo effect.

Stress, worry and limitations can result in insomnia, chronic depression, fear, trauma, phobias and a host of other self defeating behaviours such as addictions, bad habits, panic attacks, anxiety, low self-esteem, etc., that can further manifest into physical symptoms.

A good Hypnotherapist knows how to help you gently release blocks and fears, and create new inner beliefs that will set the wheels in motion to help make positive changes in the way you think, feel and behave. National Accreditation as a Clinical Hypnotherapist is vital, when searching for a reputable Hypnotherapist in Sydney.

    What really happens under Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an unusual, yet natural experience. Hypnosis involves, more than anything else, changes in a person’s focus and concentration. Hypnosis has been likened to a camera lens with a zoom. What you focus on holds your attention under hypnosis, so you tend to experience whatever you think, imagine or remember, more vividly and clearly. One of the characteristics of the hypnotic state is a sense of being on autopilot. For example, if you are asked under hypnosis to raise your hand, you may feel your hand rising, without any conscious decision on your part. This automatic response is by some, considered the indicator of a true hypnotic experience. This is not being helpless though, if you really need to or want to, you can resist any direct suggestion, you can even re-alert yourself from the hypnotic state, if you really want to. As mentioned, hypnosis is not sleep, you will be aware of everything that goes on when you are in the hypnotic state, although, you may relax so much at times that you may drift off and lose track of what is being said. With your eyes closed, you sit comfortably listening to your therapist’s voice guiding you, and you find your body relaxing more and more. You may notice a heavy sensation or a mildly curious sensation in your body, as if you are not really sitting in the chair, but rather floating. The voice talking to you gradually becomes more distant, and you even find yourself forgetting that it is there… but somehow the soothing voice continues to affect you, gently and almost automatically. As you relax even further, your awareness of where you are, why you are there, and who is speaking to you, recedes into the background… You are having a typical hypnotic experience.

    Is Hypnotherapy safe?

Hypnosis is a normal state of mind, one that most people go in and out of every day. Whenever we are engrossed watching a movie or driving on “automatic pilot”, we are in hypnosis. We experience hypnosis every day, even if we don’t  know it. Whether we are in hypnosis, or driving down the road in a semi-trance, we have an “inner observer” or “autopilot” which is always aware and watching out for us.

    Is self-hypnosis easy to learn?

Yes, it is easy to learn self-hypnosis under the guidance of a skilled hypnotherapist. Once you have mastered it you can achieve it on your own, anytime. Entering hypnosis is simply a mind skill, and hypnotherapists commonly believe that regular hypnosis is nothing more than assisted self-hypnosis. In fact, self-hypnosis is the goal in many therapeutic applications of clinical hypnosis, such as for pain management, stress management and natural childbirth. A trained clinical hypnotherapist can help you learn effective methods of self-hypnosis, to help you feel more calm and in control in any situation.

What Hypnosis can do for you?

Hypnosis is used effectively to reduce negativity, stress, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, phobias and fears. It has been of help with making positive changes to habits and addictions such as: weight management, controlling binge eating, nail biting, gambling, smoking, alcohol, drug and substance abuse. Hypnosis is used to effectively manage chronic fatigue, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It is also used to treat chronic pain and psychosomatic problems that contribute to illness; to help reduce pain and discomfort associated with medical procedures, treatment of burns, surgery and dentistry where anaesthesia cannot be used effectively. It can create a deep sense of achievement and calm determination and control in ones life, in particular in areas such as weight management, to achieve a healthy body shape and size. It may enhance positive outcome for fertility issues and to increase confidence in many areas of ones life, including public speaking.
