How to stop-smoking? How about Hypnotherapy?

Woman who recently stopped smoking with hypnotherapy said: "she felt like she had not even smoked before".

Recent article in Science Daily titled Many People Continue to Smoke after being Diagnosed with Cancer caused me a great deal of concern. It begs a question: Are people given sufficient information about alternative ways to stop smoking that do not involve patches and gum?

As a clinical hypnotherapist, with well over a decade of clinical experience, I have found first hand that hypnotherapy is the quickest and safest method for becoming a non-smoker. There have been numerous times when I have spoken with my clients after they stopped smoking and they have told me that it was so much easier than they originally thought.

One woman recently said: “she felt like she had not even smoked before”. That is very reassuring for me.

It is reassuring to know that hypnotherapy is not just a theory, but that in reality it produces lasting results for many people.

It is reassuring to hear from someone that they have achieved positive results and they did so after just a session or two of hypnotherapy. Some people do not contact me directly, but I know they succeeded, because they tell their friends, who come to see me so they can stop smoking as well.

It is reassuring to know that it is never too late to stop smoking, as this editorial in Science Daily suggests. Researchers at the University of Birmingham recent study adds more to the evidence that it is never too late for people to stop, even when they have lung cancer.

If I can be of any help to you or your friends please get in touch by phone 02 9568 6801 or send me an email.

With the help of hypnotherapy and the latest Hypno-Gastric-Band therapy many have been reporting steady weight loss, better eating habits and healthy motivation for exercise.

Hypno-Gastric-Band Hypnotherapy is a cutting edge yet sensible and achievable weight management option. It is an option available to those who wish to avoid the expense and possible side effects of undergoing the real surgery and hospitalisation.

In medical terms the gastric band is an adjustable band also known as a Lap-Band which is placed around the top part of the stomach, via keyhole surgery, in order to treat obesity.

However, the gastric band surgery has drawbacks, is not an easy option for obesity sufferers due to the surgery involved. Surgery is a drastic step, and carries the usual pain as well as risks of any major surgical operation.

With the help of the Hypno-Gastric-Band Hypnotherapy you could achieve the same weight loss results but without the risks and the astronomical costs.

There are many reality shows on TV aiming to help people overcome obesity through diet, motivation, exercise and willpower. It takes sheer grit and willpower to lose weight using the methods portrayed on these shows, most people will not be able to succeed on their own.

With the help of hypnotherapy and the latest Hypno-Gastric-Band many have been reporting steady weight loss, better eating habits and healthy motivation for exercise. During the four sessions of Hypno-Gastric-Band hypnotherapy your subconscious mind is convinced that you have had a gastric band fitted. Your body responds by naturally feeling full much quicker and as a result you will be eating smaller amount of food.

Newspapers such as Daily Mail and current affair programs such as ‘today tonight’ have been highlighting the benefits of hypnotherapy and the latest weight loss management methods, in particular the Hypno-Gastric-Band hypnotherapy…

Are you pregnant and suffering with Pubic Pain and searching for some helpful hints to help you deal with the growing discomfort? Read on…

Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) is said to be most commonly associated with pregnancy and childbirth. The cause of SPD is not well-understood by gynacology, but is generally attributed to widening of the pubic bone due to an increased release of pregnancy hormones.

SPD is also described as a condition that causes excessive movement of the pubic symphysis, either anterior or lateral, as well as causing associated pain, possibly because of a misalignment of the pelvis.

Wikipedia suggests SPD affects up to one in four pregnant women to varying degrees, with 7% of sufferers continuing to experience serious symptoms postpartum. Although the condition was recognised by Hippocrates, incidence of SPD appear to have increased in recent years; it is unclear whether this is because the average maternal age is increasing, or because the condition is being diagnosed more frequently.

Even though SPD is such a common thing to experience during pregnancy, many women continue to suffer in silence as they are told that there is nothing that can be done.

Here are some natural therapies and alternative methods that can be of help:

Acupuncture

Chiropractic

Physiotherapy

Sleep with a special ‘body pillow’

Cushions between your legs when sleeping

Wear a special support belt or brace to support the pubic area

Hot or cold compress can help when placed directly on the source of pain

Other Helpful Hints:

Avoid any movement where you have to open your legs apart

Keep your legs together when turning in bed

Getting in and out of bed, keep your legs together

Dressing or undressing, sit down to put on or take off your pants

Getting in or out of a car, sit down sideways with your legs together then lift both legs together and move them as one

Hi Katherine,

Just thought I’d drop you a line to let you know that our daughter has arrived. Lola Grace was born on 13th November, 48 cms and 3.3 kgs. I’ve attached a photo for you to have a peek at how gorgeous she is!

We ended up having a bit of a tough time bringing her into the world.

The story….. my waters broke on Wednesday and the birthcentre midwives advised to continue monitoring her daily (via CTG) as I did not go into labour. They thought that it was my hindwaters that had broken. When I went back in on Saturday we saw an obstetrician who was concerned about the risk of infection so he recommended induction.

The midwives tried to break my forewaters but couldn’t do so as my cervix was unfavourable so I went on the drip. 8 hours later labour started in quite an abrupt manner and before long I was having contractions on the back of each other, without much of a break. During this time I tried to use the hypnobirthing breathing techniques and attempted to remain as calm as I could. I was so glad to have had something to focus on. After about 6 hours of this I had another internal exam and I had only dilated 1 cm so I decided to have an epidural as the obstetrician thought that labour would become more intense and last at least another 12 hours. During this time her heart rate also had periods of dropping which was worrying the obstetrician. Soon after the epidural the obstetrician recommended caesar as I was only able to lie on my right side, otherwise her heart rate was dropping. So we took their advice and she was born about 15 minutes later.

We were surprised but absolutely delighted she is a little girl – I was so convinced that she was a boy! She came out perfect and in the end the doctors were’t really sure why her heart rate had been dropping during the labour. Initially I was in a bit of shock with the way the birth went – not the birth centre experience I was hoping for. But of course, we are thrilled that she is a healthy little girl and in the end it doesn’t really matter how she got here. I feel very thankful that I could practice my breathing techniques during 6 hours of a very tough induction and tried to contine using them through the caesar too.

Thanks again for your course. Liv and I learnt so much and it instilled a lot of confidence in us for the labour. Apart from the hypnobirthing techniques we also learnt a lot about the birth process and what we could expect. It was also wonderful to meet Rachel and Luke – who we both thought were lovely and supportive people.

Kind regards,

Kristy

Hi Katherine,

Just wanted to let you know that our baby girl ‘Norah’ was born on the 20th Oct. After coming to your weekend Hypnobirthing classes, we listened to your CD’s and practiced relaxation leading up to our due date.

I went into spontaneous labour around 9pm, the ‘in between’ breaths helped me cope through the early stages of back labour as I continued to walk around and sway on all fours as much as possible. As my contractions got stronger and closer together I used the balloon breaths, supported by my husband and Mum reminding me to breathe and counting down the contraction times. I was able to stay home until I was dialated 5cm, we then proceeded to the Birth Centre RPA.

The midwife was very supportive of me moving around and came to check on us as little as necessary, maintaining a calm atmosphere.

My husband read me scripts and repeated selected affirmations – I found the affirmations particularly helpful.

My labour was ‘established’ from 12am and Norah was born naturally with no intervention at 7am in the morning. We feel very blessed to have had a completely drug free birthing experience thanks to Hypnobirthing and strongly recommend it to anyone willing to make the effort.

We are very grateful for your teachings and support, and wish you all the best for the future.

Thankfully,
Hannah and Mark.

Hi Katherine,

I just wanted to say that thanks to our hypnobirthing sessions with you, our little boy Quinn was born in a calm and drug free way.

After finding out I was pregnant with baby number 3, I thought what I would like to do differently this time around, is the birth. With the previous 2, I just kind of went into labour hoping for the best, and while I was able to deliver naturally, I didn’t feel confident and in control of the situation either time. So I looked into a few different methods of preparing for my 3rd birth and decided to book into hypnobirthing with Katherine. It was the best thing I did. It gave me the tools to practice breathing and relaxing leading up to the event, so that I felt confident and dare I say eager for the birthing to begin. When it finally did (number 3 was 2 weeks overdue) I went straight into my hypnobirthing breathing and was happy to use all the things that I had learned to get through the birth. I had booked into the Birthing Centre at RPA (which I didn’t have the confidence to do with the previous 2, as they don’t offer pain relief such as epidurals) and the midwives there were so supportive of the process that I felt calm and in control the whole time.

I went into the birth relaxed and listening to your voice!! Everything up until transition went absolutely according to how I wanted… I still found transition pretty confronting and powerful and certainly wasn’t in the same relaxed state as the women in the video’s you showed us… but I was calm and happy enough to get on with the job… because of your sessions, I was prepared and happy to ride the experience out – and had a great experience with the midwives at the Birthing Centre at RPA as well.

Our baby boy was born after approx 5 hours in a calm and drug free way. People thought I was strange saying that I was going in this direction for my 3rd birth, but it ended up I learned so much doing the hypnobirthing sessions – even after 2 previous births!

I would recommend hypnobirthing to anyone who is having a baby – you can’t have too many tools to help you through this amazing, but sometimes challenging experience.

Thanks again for your knowledge…. I will recommend you to anyone who asks!!!!

Katherine!

After a rather lengthy lead up (10 days past due date, 48 hours of contractions before the actual hospital bit) and a slightly dramatic entrance (posterior presentation, 14 hours of active labour, epidural/forceps delivery), our little girl Zoe, is finally external. We’ve been overwhelmed (in a good way!) by everyone’s love, support and eagerness to visit.

Born 9.10.11 at 2:28pm
Weight: 3.97kg
Length: 51cm

Zoe is a calm, lovely baby who only cries when she has a good reason, and luckily Stefan and I can usually figure out what that is fairly quickly.

The birthing was quite a challenge, but I must say the Hypnobirthing techniques and scripts really got me through. With such a long lead up it was really important to stay calm and present and focussed; to not let my mind work against my body, and the recordings really helped during this time, as did the breathing. I’m an absolute master at balloon breathing now after 48 hours of contractions! And yes, the polar bear position (and variations) were so frequently adopted I’m surprised I didn’t grow white fur. According to the midwives at the birth centre she moved around a lot during stage 2; sometimes posterior, sometimes only partly on one side, then she’d swing to the exact opposite side! She wasn’t anterior until the end, by which time I was too tired to do it myself. But during stage 2 Stefan read the scripts many, many times, and focussing on his voice and following the instructions was so important. It made me able to go as long as I think my body could ever go, so to finally be medically assisted through the very last stage felt completely fine, not like any sort of defeat. I’m just so glad to have her out! She’s much calmer out than in.:-)

Thanks for providing us with the tools to get us through this challenge and to even enjoy bits of it along the way. I really don’t think the experience would have been anywhere near as manageable had we not prepared with Hypnobirthing. I had a vision of Hypnobirthing being mostly effective with (or to bring about) shorter, less complicated labours, but I see now it’s valuable in so many different situations. We’re very glad we did it!
